The district of Sindhupalchowk was severely damaged during the earthquake and many villages were left without electrical power. The amazing duo of Bikash Sapcota and Lindel Caine headed to the remote area of Echok to add some illumination to the lives of the 110 families that live there.
Kalu Lama introduced Lindel and Bikash to the villagers. They were instructed in the use and maintenance of the 150 solar lamps that were distributed. Another 10 solar lamps were distributed to the local health post and the army.
50 of the lamps were given to villagers that had hiked down three hours from a more remote village in the mountains. They were so happy to receive the lights which will brighten up their evenings.
Relief aid, while well intentioned, often ends up in the pockets of corrupt local bureaucrats and/or multinational contracts, with very little reaching the people that actually need it. Ensure that your contributions reach those in need.
