As the immediate emergency response continues across Nepal, we're beginning to look toward what comes next.

Getting food, shelter, medicine, and basic supplies to people cut off by the floods remains urgent. But as the days pass, another need becomes increasingly clear: healthcare.

Floods and landslides don't end when the water recedes. Communities face injuries, disrupted access to medical care, unsafe water and sanitation, and increased risks of disease outbreaks. People who have lost homes and livelihoods will need care and support long after the initial emergency has passed.

That's why we're excited to announce our first project with Dhulikhel Hospital — and what we hope will become a longer-term partnership.

Bringing medical care closer to the people who need it

Dhulikhel Hospital has mobilized rescue and medical teams and established a response base at its Thansing Outreach Center in Nuwakot, one of the areas affected by the floods and landslides.

The team is already working on the ground, with essential medicines and emergency supplies, while coordinating with local communities, government authorities, and humanitarian partners.

The response includes:

• Emergency medical care and referrals based on needs reported by affected communities

• Medicines, medical equipment, and essential supplies for people who have lost access to healthcare

• Disease prevention and health surveillance, including safe water and sanitation support and prevention of waterborne illness

• Rehabilitation and continuity of care as people begin recovering from injuries and displacement

• Mental health and psychological support as communities cope with the aftermath of the disaster

This is important work because recovery isn't just about rebuilding roads and houses. People need to be healthy enough to rebuild their lives.

Why Dhulikhel Hospital?

We've worked alongside Dhulikhel Hospital for years, most recently helping fund diagnostic imaging equipment for its dental teaching clinic. We know the team, we know their work, and we know the importance they place on serving communities beyond the hospital itself.

We're coordinating this fundraiser directly with Dr. Dashrath Kafle and the leadership of Dhulikhel Hospital, so we can stay close to the actual needs on the ground and support the response as those needs change.

We aren't a large international relief agency arriving with a predetermined program. We're a network of people with decades of relationships in Nepal, working with local organizers and institutions that understand their communities and are already there doing the work.
